Maurice Rugebregt [1969] had his first guitar lesson
at the age of 12. As a youngster he listened to jazz artists like Miles
Davis, Cannonball Adderley and his first guitar hero, Wes Montgomery.
He studied guitar at the Conservatory of Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
His teachers were Klaus Flenter, Ben de Bruijn and the American jazz-guitarist
Joe Pass. In 1994 he went to New York City to study with established
guitarists such as Jim Hall, Peter Bernstein and Peter Leitch. He graduated
as a Performing Musician at the Rotterdam Conservatory in 1995.
He played and recorded with his own hammondtrio Ltd Edition [finalist
Jazz Hoeilaart contest in Belgium], Boptale Trio [winner Dordtse Jazz
Price] and the Mijke Loeven Band [North Sea Jazz Festival].
Maurice played with Bob Brookmeyer, Hans van Oosterhout, Benjamin Herman,
Bert van den Brink, the Skymasters and vocalists such as Denise Jannah,
Josee Koning, Lilian Vieira and Laura Fygi.
Since 1999 Maurice has been teaching Brazilian guitar and jazz harmony
at the Rotterdam Conservatory. Maurice traveled to Brazil in 2003 to study with
Brazilian guitarists like Ricardo Silveira and Nelson Faria. In 2004 Maurice recorded with ZUCO 103
with Brazilian singer Lilian Vieira on their unplugged album One Down One Up.

Maluku, produced by Radio Netherlands Music, was released by
Munich Records in 2003.
